Artist Statement
I love working with clay. I love every aspect of it: Forming wet clay; heating the clay in an incredibly hot kiln; using alchemy to mix colorful glazes from powdered rocks; designing and building kilns … I would rather spend my days doing these projects than doing anything else. Potters work incredibly hard, but it is tremendously rewarding to make this my life’s work.
Biography
Janet Buskirk is professional potter living in Portland, Oregon. She began her career in clay making silly, sculptural animals and objects, each of which came with a humorous written story. As the years passed, her pottery slowly changed and she is now fully immersed in making functional pottery, with an emphasis on beautiful colors and jewel-like surfaces. Visit her studio in Southeast Portland, or her booth at Ceramic Showcase. www.JanetBuskirk.com, www.CeramicShowcase.com, www.OregonPotters.org.
