Artist Statement
My art has evolved and matured with the places, seasons, and cycles that make up my life. Living and working amidst the mountains, rivers, and communities of the northwest has grounded and blessed me with a sense of belonging and permanence. I am a part of this place, its people, and its culture. I am always looking, looking at myself, looking at my work, hoping to discover my own cadence.

My work is wheel thrown and hand built using porcelain and stoneware clays. After the forming process the pieces are loaded into a large anagama (cave) kiln and wood fired for many days. Throughout the firing process natural ash is randomly dispersed and deposited on the work by the river of fire that fills the kiln’s interior. Ash and clay combine to create glazed surfaces that are distinctly unpredictable with a character that can be achieved in no other way. It is the collaboration with materials and process that keep me engaged in this practice. Each piece has a story. Each piece continues to reveal its beauty long after it is removed from the kiln.
