I am a retired mathematics teacher/educator with a BS in Mathematics and a MS in Education. I started making functional pottery when I took classes at a community center, Richmond Arts Center, in Richmond California. After 10 years I built a log home in Mariposa California and designed a studio there. I used an electric wheel and electric and Raku kilns for firing. I made and sold functional pottery using medium range porcelain and stoneware firing at cone 5 to 6 in oxidation. I sold pottery to neighbors and tourists at the Mariposa Arts Center in town and at the Holiday Faire and the Butterfly Festivals. After 14 years in my Mariposa studio, I moved to Portland in December of 2015 and I am currently taking classes and working at the Multnomah Arts Center making functional pottery using high fire porcelain and stoneware which is fired by professional studio artists and technicians in gas kilns at cone 9 to 10 using the reduction method. I joined the Oregon Potters Association in December of 2016.
