Artist Statement
I am a hand builder of clay. I roll out slabs, pinch pots, roll coils, hollow out solid-made forms, and pull these together into a functional object. Sometimes the functional is useful; other times it is purely for the sake of beauty or brings one joy - both important functions! I’m also a watercolor painter and lover of color that I use in my clay work. I meld these two as I create playful, expressive pieces which become their own narrative and personality. Before I even begin, I have a rough idea of what I’m going to make. I take a lump of clay and form a shape. When I get to the face is when its story really evolves. What is it trying to say? Where did it come from? What just happened to it? These conversations go on in my head as my fingers work.

Whether you use a piece everyday or place it somewhere to brighten a space, I hope they will continue to bring you a smile.
Biography
After a 30+ career as a video journalist and filmmaker, I returned to my first love: hand building with clay. Since January 2018, I have been working primarily with terra-cotta and porcelain clay bodies, creating sculptural and functional pieces. As a continuation from my former career, story often plays an important role in either the form’s shape or how it is decorated.
