In less than two hours you will create your own clay monster. The tools and techniques are very basic and the workshop is suitable for kids and adults. Detailed instruction and demonstration will be given to guide you through the entire process of making your own original creature of disgust. Instruction will also be given on how to stain and glaze, or how to use paints to add a wash and colors.

You will learn:

Participants will learn expert monster making techniques, along with basics in forming and joining clay parts. Instruction will also be given in figurative sculpting and posturing to express personality and emotion. There will be detailed demonstrations of texturing and monster appendage making.

Materials needed:

  • ceramic clay - White Salmon with grog or a low-fire white clay body
  • air-dry clay if not firing in a kiln
  • 2 chopsticks (1 that is round at both ends, 1 that has a square end)
  • 2 round toothpicks
  • small water dish
  • small work board - hardy-backer/mason board, or wood, or a porous type surface
  • ceramic stain - iron oxide or a mix of iron and copper oxide
  • ceramic underglaze - "Duncan Concepts" - red, green, blue, yellow, black, white
  • acrylic paints if using non-fire clay
  • small paint brushes

The Zoom Demonstration will be recorded and sent out to all registrants if you want to attend but have a scheduling conflict during the live demonstration.

Since this is an online workshop, you will need to have a computer, tablet, or phone that can run video conferencing in a browser or app.
