Online Demonstration: Pinch, Pull and Push Your Cat: Simple Sculpting with Carrie Kitzke of Studio Mimmi Ceramics

Learn how to sculpt a cat with Carrie Kitzke of Studio Mimmi Ceramics. In this 1.5 hour workshop you will learn the foundations of pinching/pulling a form. This workshop will guide you through the steps of creating a cat and how to make simple a simple push mold for ladybugs and mushrooms. We'll discuss the merits of solid sculpting and how it can help create uniform work. Carrie will demonstrate techniques learned from hand sculpting over 1,000 clay kitties. She has taught this sculpting method to both kids and adults, its great for beginners or experienced ceramicists looking for something new. The techniques in this class are transferable to Sculpey so participants don't need a kiln to participate. 

Younger kids should work with an adult and might only be interested in the “kitty making” which will be the first 45 mins and then we’ll focus on push molds for the second half. 

You Will Learn:

1. Learn how to sculpt a cat.

2. Learn how to make small push molds and add cute details

3. Learn skills that are transferable to oven-bake or air dry clay
   
   

Materials Needed:

• Clay (a 4 oz ball and some extra) OR an oven bake clay alternative like Sculpey (2 oz package for one cat, plus extra for details) 

• Needle tool (or a tooth pick)

• Sponge

• Water

• Scratching/scoring tool 

• Slip 

  Note: if you're using Sculpey you only need two 2oz packages and a needle tool or tooth pick. Rubbing alcohol can be used to smooth unbaked Sculpey. 

The Zoom Demonstration will be recorded and sent out to all registrants if you want to attend but have a scheduling conflict during the live demonstration.

Since this is an online workshop, you will need to have a computer, tablet, or phone that can run video conferencing in a browser or app.
