My collage plates are reminiscent of a mixed media collage, however, we will be using clay! With a combination of hand-carved stamps and various other textures from my stamp collection, we will be creating a collage plate using a menagerie of different textures. I enjoy pairing a glossy glaze next to a matte glaze to add some additional interest!

You Will Learn:

  • Good craftmanship using slab construction and multiple hand building techniques
  • A new arsenal of tools & methods
  • About brushing glazes and a few glaze design aesthetics

Materials Needed:

  • large clay slab
  • small or large bisque plate form
  • work surface (I use 2.5x2.5 drywall from home depot/lowes (precut)
  • two smaller boards (larger than your bisque plate form)
  • assortment of stamps (large & small)
  • large & small cookie cutters with a scalloped edge
  • rolling pin
  • ruler
  • large & small brush
  • squeegee or a soft Sherrill Mudtools
  • exacto knife
  • corn starch
  • thin plastic
  • water
  • serrated tracing wheel (optional)
